vs K. A. F. S. Republic

So Sunday's game was a little more fucked up then usual. I was geared up for one. Henry was tilted at the troubles organising people to show up. Derek was late forcing Geoff into goals. And with Heng and Quoc unexpectingly showing up, we had 2 subs as opposed to the other team's none. Ultimately, this would decide the game.

The kick off was cagey as KAFS Republic didn't really run around hard like the other teams. Their zonal style suited our lack of fitness and really played to our strengths. With the exception of their lanky striker, they lacked any real weapons such as power, speed or passing and it didn't take long for the possession game to kick in. For the most part, this served us well with some pretty easy openings on goals. We hit the lead courtesy of Quoc's typical placement over power shot along the ground. 1-0.

Some lazy defending gave them a slight sniff of victory when nobody put pressure on the ball carrier and let their best player through for an open shot. But when Derek subbed on in goals, there was no more clear cut chances. Through some good goalie hustle, the tracking back of Quoc, Heng and Henry, and Sanji's steadfast zoning off, they never really had a clear opening.

Although we always had control of the game, it was clear our lack of fitness was beginning to show. Fortunately, they wore out as much as us and the substitutes meant as the game progressed, we had numerous chances on goal that were ruefully wasted. Except for Simon, who, sharpshooted his way through some endless running and pinpoint, powerful finishing. Single handedly, he was causing KAFS too much trouble and fired home the last 5 goals allowing us to run home easy winners. The only sour note was Heng's knee injury at the end.

Overall, not the most fluid performance but never in doubt.

Score: 7-2
Goals: 5 Simon, 1 Henry, Quoc
Man of the match: Simon
Angry cunt award: Henry, for being so tilted before the game. (PS: That's why you wear the captain's armband!)
